46: Cursing
Cursing involves invoking evil or divine wrath upon someone or something, implicitly or explicitly calling upon God, and thus offends both religion and charity. While cursing something directly related to God (like faith or the Church) constitutes blasphemy, general curses against creatures primarily violate charity, which can be a mortal sin depending on the severity of the invoked evil and the cuser's full advertence. The text notes that passion or mere mechanical utterance might mitigate guilt, and cursing inanimate objects or vices may be a slight sin or none at all. However, habitually damning others reflects a damned soul, as such behavior aligns with the nature of demons and the eternally condemned.
