63: Godless Education
Chapter 63, "Godless Education," argues that public school systems, by excluding religion, fundamentally undermine sound education and civilization. Quoting the Third Plenary Council of Baltimore, the text asserts that true education must develop moral and religious faculties alongside intellectual ones, as neglecting the soul leads to a "one-sided life" and societal decay. It warns that removing religion from schools ultimately removes it from the people and, subsequently, morality, leading to a "struggle for existence" where cunning replaces virtue. The Catholic Church, viewing godless education as a threat to faith and civic stability, advocates for parochial schools as a vital protest and the true safeguard of Christian civilization, urging parents to recognize and avoid the dangers posed by secular schooling.
