45: Blasphemy

Blasphemy is any thought, word, or deed that disrespects or dishonors God, His attributes, Jesus Christ, the Blessed Sacrament, the Blessed Mother, saints, Holy Scripture, religion, the Church, or her ministers, all of which are intimately connected to God. It can range from direct revilings (often from atheists or heretics) to indirect affronts, such as attributing divine qualities to creatures or questioning God's providence during adversity. While less common than other sins, blasphemy is a grave offense stemming from hatred and a direct revolt against the Creator, though often committed in ignorance. The text provides two historical anecdotes illustrating God's swift punishment for such impiety.
